Love Matters with Grace: A New Hong Kong Television Talk Show Produced in English
With this in mind, TVB put forth a massive effort in reinvigorating its brand to appeal more to today’s audience tastes and preferences, with none more pleasantly surprising than creating original content in English through their TVB Pearl channel under the banner Pearl Originals.
Led by renowned Executive Producer Lincoln Lam and Creative Director Thomas Lo, Pearl Originals began with a revamp of its existing show Dolce Vita to make it more informative, relevant, and appealing to local audiences in a younger demographic. On top of this, there has been a greater emphasis on making this content more accessible to those not in the local market by posting it on all the top social media platforms, a staple for all future projects.
Its first official original show is now set to premiere in August 2022, Love Matters with Grace, a talk show helmed by former Miss HK and platinum social media influencer Grace Chan. This roving talk show takes audiences all around the city to talk about everything to do with love, including marriage, siblings, self-love, passion pursuits, and more. With tourist hotspots and hidden treasures as the backdrop to these intimate conversations, Love Matters with Grace is going to offer audiences all around the world a different perspective of Hong Kong and its vibrant international culture.
Beyond these shows, Pearl Originals along with myTV Super, and TVB, is also engaging talent from all around the world through international collaborations with the likes of YouTube sensation Wong Fu Productions, Southeast Asia’s renowned short-form content hub Viddsee, and even hip hop superstar MC Jin. Yet these developments are just the beginning.
The grander vision of Pearl Originals, myTV Super, and TVB for this platform is simple: to contribute to the Asian representation movement. As one of the most important broadcasters for people of Asian descent, it is critical to be involved in the fight for more opportunities in front and behind the camera. There is no better time than now to push this movement forward while also providing various opportunities to make this platform a viable alternative for Asian talents everywhere to leverage in their pursuit of their dreams.
A Need for Asian Content in English in North America
Turning a blind eye to the racial discrimination happening all around the world, the senseless violent attacks on the elderly and unsuspecting Asians, and obvious exclusions in the entertainment world was not an option. These efforts in building a positive and optimistic future for all Asian talents can only be seen as steps in the right direction but not necessarily the solution to all that ails our global Asian community. That will take time. As will this platform.
With more voices, talent, and people supporting Pearl Originals, myTV Super, and TVB content, there is no doubt that it will ease the transition from this awful predicament into a bright, inspiring, and impactful future for everyone involved. This just might turn out to be the new home to the next generation of creators of Asian descent, so stay tuned.
